On Parole - Demo (1982)

Here I bring you another infamous pioneer Oi!/Skinhead band. Even though they don't have any recognition for being one of the first skinhead bands, they were formed in 1979 in Livingston, Scottland along with other bands such as 'Criminal Class', 'Skrewdriver', '4 Skins' and other great bands from the era. The band had a short career and did not released an LP and not even an EP. On Parole went through many changes in their line up and finally recorded their 5 tracks demo tape in 1982. In 1983 they made their first and last apperance in the famous compilation released by 'No Future Records'; "A Country Fit For Heroes Vol 2" and shortly after the band split up. Too bad they did not release anything, I thought they were great and had that slow Oi! tempo style, kind of like Criminal Class. Great fucking Oi! band.

Asociale - Novum Comum (1992)

Oi! Oi! I am back again and to be honest I don't know will it take me to make the next post. I've been so lazy lately, I put this blog to the side. For the one's that do know this great Oi! band, Asociale was born in 1990 in the city of Como, Italy. Since the 80's were gone, Asociale was trying to manage to keep Oi! still alive in the 90's. It was a hard job, they went through many members in the band but they still managed to be strong. The band first appeared in the compilation "Oi! Siamo Ancora Aqui" releasing the song "La Gente Reale Non Moure Mai" in 1991. As a mention before, the band went through a numerous member, front man Ivano (only original member left) dragged the band to release their first and only single 'Novum Comum' in 1992 containing the tracks 'Niente Politica Solo Oi!' and a tribute song to Hoxtom from the 4 Skins; 'Hoxtom Tom for President'. By 1995 Ivano left the band and Asociale was forced to call it a quit. The band has gotten together again sometime late 2009 and they have started gigging. I know for a fact that they have crossed the ocean to Mexico and New York in 2010. I'm not sure when, but Novum Comum was re released again adding 2 extra songs from other compilations the band was in. Asociale is expected to release a full discography CD late this year. In my opinion they were one of the best Oi! bands in Italy. Defiantly they are on the same level as Nabat, Rough, and other great Italian Oi! bands from the 80's. I hope you like it.

Tolbiac's Toads & Snix - Split (1984)

Even if you are not a French speaker, you must listen to this! Snix and Tolbiac's Toads ruled the skinhead/oi! scene in France and became legends. I have done a previous post of Snix first LP where you can find it here with some more info about the band. In the other hand Tolbiac's Toads made a huge name for them selfs in Paris. Formed in may of 1982, the band did not played any shows until the end of year. By june of the '83 they released their first EP titled 'Zera' containing only 4 tracks, soon after that the band went through some member changes. It didn't take long for Snix and the Tolbiac's to release a split together, since they always mantained a good relation between both of the band, in 1984 their split was released havin 2 songs per band. Nothing more than a classic that impacted France and became an instant hit as well. As the years kept going by the band participated of a few more compilations. The band came to an end after vocalist 'Bruno' decided to come out of the closet which cause many of their fans to be pissed off. Even skinhead crews that supported the Tolbiac's from a day to the other they switch sides. They constantly got threats and violence was always provoked at their gigs. Even though I find it a bit weird. Tolbiac's Toads were a very patriotic band, macho looking, tought skins, and a bit lean to the right side. I guess when Bruno decided to announce that he was gay it made a big impact. And so I say, I don't care how problematic both of this bands were and all the shit they went through, they have to be my favourite. This is more than a gem, and you MUST listen to it!

Contra-Ataque - Demos and Lost Tracks (????)

I'm starting to run out of rare bands but this time I bring ya another gem from Brazil. The land where the girls are beautiful and where football is more than just a sport, I bring you 'Contra Ataque'. Formed in the late 80's in the city of Porto Alegre, Contra Ataque became an icon for the Carecas (Brazilian Skinheads) as well with Carbonario, Virus 27, and Histeria Oi!. The band appeared in 2 Brazilian Oi! compilations, 'Oi! um Grito De Uniao vol 2 and 3' released by Rotten Records. Influenced by British Oi!, the band made a name all over Brazil, but the punks never had a chance to see them due to divisions in the scene between punks and skins. By the mid 90's the band split up and guitarrist Ze Loco formed a continuation of Contra Ataque under the name of 'Corrosao', but until now the band has not released any full lengths, only demos.

Snix - Coeur De Lion (1985)

This got to be one of the best Oi! bands that came out of France. Snix, a classic skinhead/Oi! band formed in October of 1982 inspired by Oi! bands such as the Cockney Rejects, Angelic Upstarts, 4 Skins and other classic British bands, but what really made an impact in the band was the compilation Oi! the Album. Snix made their debut in the French compilation 'CHAOS En France Vol. 1' released by 'Chaos Production' in 1983. The band had a good affiliation with many of the skinhead bands in France, bands such as 'Brutal Combat', 'Warrior Kids', 'Brainwash' and others, but definitely they had a better relation with 'Tolbiac's Toeds' from Paris. Which caused both bands to release a split by Snix own record label in 1984. Not until 1985 the band signed to '77KK Records' and became part of another compilation, and that same year released their full length LP 'Coeur De Lion', which is considered to be a gem in French Oi!. The LP open many doors for the band not just in France but all over Europe. As the years kept going by, the band released one more full length and was invited to participate in many compilations. The band came to an end in the late 80's and sealed their name as one of the most rememberable bands in French Oi!. This is a great fucking album, I hope you like it.

Angela Rippons Bum - Nice Arse Shame About The Face (2000)

Oi!'s most infamous and rarest band... 'Angela Rippon's Bum'. Formed in 1981 in the violent city of Tilbury, England, known for having the toughest skins in the 70's and 80's. Gangs such as the 'Tilbury Trojan Skins' supported the band and I'm pretty sure one of the members of ARB was in the gang. The played over 20 shows supporting bands like the Last Resort, The Business, and punk bands such as The Exploited. For not being a very well known band, Angela Rippon's had a massive skinhead following and were known for having violent shows. The band never released any full lengths or EPs, but they did participated in the infamous compilation 'Back On The Streets' released in 1982. The band split up in 1983 and never made a comeback. In 2000 'Guilty Records' collected all of their demos, live recordings and the songs that came out in the compilation and released a full length CD titled 'Nice Arse Shame About The Face', that same year an EP of the songs that were on the Back on the Streets compilations were released under the same name of the CD. Around 550 copies were pressed for the CD release of this legendary Oi! band from Tilbury. It's a MUST have!

Inspecter 7 - The Infamous (1997)

A little change to the blog, this time I'm bringing you the finest 2 Tone band from New Jersey/New York! Inspecter 7 formed in 1992 in New Brunswick, NJ in a desperation to bring back a 2-tone/Ska scene in the early 90's. The band started playing at parties and basement shows for the first year under the name of 'Agent 86'. Not until the end of 1993 the band renamed the band to 'Inspecter 7'. By the beginning of 94' kick off pretty hardcore and started to get some recognition. Started to play some more gigs in NYC and supported many of the local Skinhead and Punk bands at the time. In 1997 the band signs to 'Radical Records' and their first full length CD is released titled 'The Infamous', which made a big impact for the band. Their success did not last long, till the release of their second full-length 'Banished to Bogeyland' not having the same respond as their first one. By the end of the 90's the band was going for a split and had a few reunion shows. By 2003 the band called it a finished once for all. After Inspecter 7 the vocalist of the band formed a similar band under the name of 'Hub City Stompers', who till the day of today they are still playing. As for my taste they are not as good as Inspecter 7 but they put a good show.

The Partisans - The Best Of The Partisans (1999)

If its not one of the best bands, it is defiantly on the top 5 of the best punk/oi! bands out there. Formed in 1978 in the country of Wales, Partisans represented Wales' in the late 70's and early 80's. In 1981 the band had their debut EP 'Police Story' released by 'No Future Records', being one of the first bands to be sign to the label. The EP went fabulous and sold every single copy spending 22 weeks in the Indie Charts peaking at No. 5, and the funny thing was, the band was still in high school when they released their first EP. That same year the journalist 'Garry Bushell' invited the band to participate on his third Oi! compilation 'Carry On Oi!'. The band contributed 'Arms Race' and 'No U Turns', and later found them selfs gigging with Oi! bands such as 'The Ejected', 'Blitz' and other bands from the label. It didn't take long for the band to release their second EP titled '17 Years Of Hell' in '82, becoming an anthem for the band. Even though some of the band members claim that it was one of their worst recordings. Partisans kept making a name for them selfs in London, where the scene was bigger. The band released their full length in 1983 titled 'The Partisans', and after that was when the band made some changes in their sound. Claiming they did not wanted to be part of the Oi!/punk scene anymore. It just did not seem right to them. From there on the band went a little bit more poppy sound, and many of their die hard fans quickly accused them of selling out. The band released a few more EP's and LP's with a different line up. Partisans split up in 1984 and made their comeback in the late 90's and still playing till today. Early Partisans.. a classic. For sure!

Skin Deep - Football Violence (1985)

What a great EP! this is a must-have in your collection. Either in vinyl format or mp3. Even though, if you do get a chance to get a copy of the original EP, it will cost a lot of money. 'Skin Deep' was formed in 1982 in the region of West Lothian, England. In 1985 the band released their only recorded album, 'Football Violence' by 'Enemy Records'. I believe around 1000 copies were sold, and they sold fast. The band split up the following year after the singer left the band and Skin Deep never made an attempt to regroup again. In 1989 the EP was repressed and the band participated in many Oi! compilations. Today these 3 tracks are ultra rare in the Oi! world, but they are some great fucking songs. Must have it!

Condemned 84 - Face The Aggression (1988)

I know some of you will get pissed at me for this, but I don't care. Condemned 84 had to be one of the best bands from all time! Formed in 1980 under the name of 'Criminal Tendencies' and not till 1983 the band changed their name to 'Condemned'. By the release of their first demo tape in 1984, the band added the numbers '84' to the name. Condemned has always been a very controversial band, just like 'Combat 84'. The band never claimed to be part of any political movement, but they have open for many 'SHARP' and right-wing bands, which caused controversy. In 1986 the band had their debut LP titled 'Battle Scared' released by Rody Moreno's record label 'Oi! Records'. The mini LP sold out quick it became an instant success for the band. Not until 1988 when the band released one of their best albums 'Face The Aggression' by 'Grade 1 Records'. This time showing where the band was aiming for. The cover of the LP shows the violent sound and side of the band. As the years go by, nothing stopped the band from releasing more EP's and LP's. They've always been accussed of being a Fascist band, even though they still claimed to be non-political band. But I do have to say that a lot of right-wing skins follow the band. But then again, many other bands like Cockney Rejects and Sham 69 went through this. I don't care what people say and if they give me shit, 'Face The Aggression' is one of the best Oi! albums out there. A very original sound that no other band has it. Condemned has always been known for being a "either you hate us, or love us" band, and their fans are die hards.

VA - Wet Dreams (1984)

Hello hello, and sorry for the delay. I've been enjoying my summer and haven't had a chance to update the blog. But now I'm back and I bring you a great Punk and Oi! compilation released by 'Rot Records' in 1984. Weirdly the compilation was named after 'Clockwork Soldiers' first EP. I'm guessing they were the ones that put this LP together. The compilation has the same format as other unfamous compilation LP's such as 'A Country Fit For Heroes' and so on. With the purpose to help bands from that time to get their name out there. I think about 1000 copies were released. Bands like Clockwork Soldiers (later reformed as 'The Glory') and Resistance 77 got lucky and continued to spread their fame all over England and some countries in Europe. For the rest of the bands, I think but I'm not sure, Riot Squad also gained some notice but nothing too big. We'll thats about it. It's a great compilation. I hope you enjoy it!

Peter & The Test Tube Babies - Pissed And Proud (1982)

I finally did, posted my favorite album of all times. 'Peter and The Test Tube Babies' were an oi!/punk band from Peaceheaven, England formed in 1978. A large amount of skinheads and punks followed the band for years. The band made their debut EP in 1980 'Banned From The Pubs' by 'No Future Records' followed by 'Run Like Hell/Up Yer Bum' single in 1983 again by No Future. In 1982 the band recorded a live album and turned into their first LP. The album was actually recorded in two gigs. The reason for releasing their first album as a live LP was due to money. They couldn't afford to hit the studio and the band did not make that much money at their gigs. The cover photo was actually taken in a nudist beach, that same day the band claims they got into a fight with some nudiest, ahahah. The band managed to release a few more EP's and studio full length albums. Peter and The Test Tube Babies still plays today, but mostly in big festivals. I'll say it again, this album has to be one of my favorite LPs. For a live album the sound quality is pretty fucking good plus their songs are just too funny, hahaha. Enjoy!

BOOK - Skins (Re published 2008)

If you could re capture and go back in time to see what the skins looked like and the trouble a bunch of dirty white working class kid got into, then I recomend you get a copy of the book 'Skins' by the fabulous photographer 'Gavin Watson'. Borned in London in 1965, at the age of 13 Wason bought his first camara and became obsessed with photography. A boy with no talent and money been extremely tight, Gavin had to make sure every photo he took had to be worth it. Belong to the Wycombe Skins, he began to take photos of his friends and mostly his phonogenic brother who was 5 years younger than him. Wherever Watson went, his camara was with him. Catching every single little second of him and his friends getting in trouble and representing what the Skinheads in the early 80's were. In 1994 Gavin released the book 'Skins', concidered to be a documented book on the most misunderstood subcultures by the mainstream. Skins marked history, and culture as well. In 2008 the book was re-published with more pictures, and a little bit of more information about him. Containing 147 pages of just photography. That same year he released another photography book called 'Skins & Punks: Lost Archives 1978-1985'. A fantastic photo journal, this time the book was much bigger, better paper, and some pictures were in color as well black in white. Both books have a touch of class and it just makes ya wish you were a teenage boy in those days.

The Squats - Noise Overdose (1981)

The Squats were probably one of the most controversial bands in Nijmegen has ever known. The kind of teenagers you better could not have living next door to you. It seemed that they ruined more or less everything that came along their way. Formed in 1979 Nijmegen, Holland, the members of the band were from the ages of 14 to 17. Nasty teenage kids that had a lot to say. By 1980 The Squats gain recognition nationwide and even hopped over the border to Belgium several times. That same year the band recorded a live show in Rotterdam and released their debut album "The First, The Best, The Last?" by their own label 'Nep En Bedrog Records'. The following year 'Noise Overdose' EP was released again on their own label, and 500 copies were pressed. Their gigs were notorious for violence, and by 1982 The Squats had fed up with violence and accusations of being a right wing bang, the band call it a quit. The band never reformed, even though their fans wanted to see them one more time. It never happen.

Vengeance - Demo (1986)

Don't have a lot of information about this band. But I do know they were from Norwich, England and formed in 1986. At first the band were half punk half skin and had an Oi! sound that attracted both tribes. The same year the band formed they released this demo. After guitarrist Tim and bass player Rach (woman) left the band, the band went towards a different change; new members and new ideals. The second generation of Vengeance became part of the far rightwing movement. I think they released one EP or maybe a full length and that was the end of the band, sometime around 1989. I like their first demo, and that's about it.

The Defects - Defected Breakdown (1983)

Want to hear some good punk? Make sure you get a copy of this LP (if you can find it, otherwise buy the CD). 'The Defects' was formed in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1978 having not a very good start. After playing many local shows the band sent a few demos to record labels, and when it fail they formed their own label called 'Casualty Records' and issued their debut single, "Dance (Til You Drop)". The single sold all two thousand copies, and brought the band to the attention of the UK music press. Soon after, 'Melody Maker' journalist Carol Clerk managed to get them a record deal with 'WXYZ Records', being labelmates with 'Anti-Nowhere League, Chron Gen, Chelsea and others. In 1982 the band embarked on the six-weeks 'So What UK tour' with the rest of the bands from WXYZ label. That same year their second single 'Survival' was released and managed to reach number 8 in the UK Indie Chart. The following year the band recorded their debut and only album 'Defected Breakdown' and sold out every single copy. The Defects released on more single title 'Suspicious Minds' in 1984 but it did not sell well. The band split up the same year and did not regrouped till 1996 to play their one and last perfomance at the at the Pavilion festival, which later came out on VHS. In 1994 Captain Oi! Records reissued 'Defected Breakdown' onto a CD format, including tracks from their single. The Defects were a great band, in a way they kind of remind me of the Australian band 'Vicious Circle'. I hope you like it.

Criminal Class - Fighting The System EP (1982)

Criminal Class had to be Oi! first Skinhead band. Even though Skrewdriver had a skinhead image around '78. They weren't really skins, they just changed their image from punk to skin due to fashion. Not even the 4 Skins were an all skinhead band. Criminal Class was formed in Coventry, England in 1979 being one of the first Oi!/Skinhead band to emerge. The band made their debut in the compilation 'Strength Thru Oi!' in 1981 by 'Deca Records'. Which turn out to be a catastrophe to all the bands that appeared on the compilation, due to violence that occured in South Hall that same year. The following year the band released their only single, 'Fighting The System' in 1982 by 'Tempest Records'. Even though the band had slow tempo songs, their lyrics were very powerfull. Had to do with corruption in England, the Falklands War, police brutality, black and white unity, and more. The band split up in the mid 80's and later reformed again in 2000 after the release of the CD 'Blood on the Streets: Oi! Collection' by Captain Records. Recolecting tracks from the EP, Strength Thru Oi!, demos, and tracks that were never released. Today, I'm not sure if the band is still active. I heard they were going to record some new tracks and release a new CD, but that never happen. For this EP I decided to add two more tracks, 'Blood on the Streets' from Strength Thru Oi!, and 'Running Away' the unreleased track. I hope you like it.

VIDEO: 4 Skins - BBC Nationwide Documentary (1981)

If you try to explain somebody that has nothing to do with any of the underground subcultures what skinhead is. You can tell them 20 billion times that they are not racist or fascist. They are still not going to get it, and still beleive they are nazis. This is exactly what happen to the '4 Skins'. In 1981 the British press and the channel BBC made a big deal of the release of the compilation LP 'Strength Thru Oi!'. Acussing all Skinheads of being fascist and Nazis.
'Tony Wilkinson', a BBC reporter goes beyond the lines of what Oi! music is. Most of the blame falls on the 4 Skins, acussed of being Nazis, and the disaster that occured at the Asian community in Southall. Garry Hodges tells the reportes that they have nothing to do with politics, and that they don't feel responsable for the catastrophe in the Asian community while playing with 'The Business' and other bands. Saying that it was a set up. Well... like I said in the beginning of the paragraph, doesn't matter how many times you tell them, they are still not going to get it. As the documentary goes on, Wilkinson makes an effort to destroy the image of Oi!, after he reads a few lines of the song 'Blood On The Streets' by 'Criminal Class'. A song that is about black and white youth fighting for equality. But in the documentary he skips a few lines, makes it seem that is about stomping black people. I find some humour in the video, it's just silly and ridiculous of how much of an effort they made to burn the image of the working class youth. Don't get me wrong, many skins in those days they were violent, thugs, had their own gangs, and not every single one of them was an angel. But it does not mean they have any affiliation with the right wing. It's funny when he goes to one of the 4 Skins show, and some of the kids in the crowd are wearing a Union Jack shirt saying, "some are wearing t-shirts that grated with the Union Jack, which happens among other things to be adopted by the National Front". And so, the kid that is wearing the t-shirt tells him that he is not a nazi, but just proud to be British. Once again the reporter does not beleive him, and the crowd starts to make a fool out of Wilkinson by sieg heiling the camara. One thing is for sure, the skinhead image will always be portraid as a fascist soldier, and it doesn't matter how much of an effort you make to make the world beleive that Skins are not Nazis, it's just not going to happen. Today Oi! has cleared its image, but they are still some hippies and anarchist punks giving the music and skins a hard time. But oh well, who gives a fuck about them. The skins and their music, they were the only ones that actually went through a hard time, any other subculture does not have the pride that the Skinheads have. Oi!

The Crack - All Cracked Out: Demos & Rarities (2000)

If there was any justice in the music industry The Crack would have been fucking massive! Been around in the Oi! scene since 1982, The Crack was one of the most talented Oi! bands at their time. Even though they sounded very similar to bands like 999 and other Mod Rocker bands, they had a large skinhead and punk following. The band made their debut album 7 years after they were formed, released by 'Link Records' in '89 titled 'In Search of The Crack' LP. The Crack appeared in numerous compilation, and participated in big festivals such as 'Holidays in The Sun' and others. The band split up in the mid 90's, and nowdays reforms everyonce in a while. Mostly for large gigs and festivals. Today, The Crack marked their name in the Oi! world, and their albums are still being sell like if they were brand new. In 2000 'Captain Oi! Records' released all 3 singles, demo, and rare songs onto one CD titled 'All Cracked Up: The Demos & Rarities', a great album! Tracks like 'Don't You Ever Let Me Down', 'Going Out', and 'The Troops Have Landed' are my favorite ones. Get a copy of this album either on CD or Mp3 format. Enjoy!

BOOK - Spirit Of 69: A Skinhead Bible (1994)

Ahh the Skinheads, who gets them? Portrait as thugs, bandits, violents, a little bit crazy, but the girls love them; all of it a bit true, or at least to some. Around 1965, the Mod culture was going for a split, it was coming to a downfall and some were forced continue with what the Mod scene was turning. By the late 60's some Mods had become hippys, and the ones that were still loyal to the cult did not wanted to be part of what it was turning into. Some Mods started to cut their hair shorter, wearing boots instead of shoes, and formed their own gangs. They were no longer Mods, but HARD Mods. Which it was just an early name for the Skinheads. As the late 60's were passing by and the 70's was moving in, the skins ruled the streets of England, becoming one of the most popular cult for working class kids. George Marshall, a skinhead from Glasgow, Scotland, released his master piece in 1994 titled 'Spirt of 69: A Skinhead Bible'. Explaining the rise of the Skinhead movement in England. Talking about the early days of the skins, and the adoptation of Jamaican music, to the glorious days of Oi!. The book is based on his personal stories, getting in contact with some of the people that lived the "Skinhead Days". A very good book if you want to know about the skinhead culture. The term 'Spirit of 69' was first said by the gang 'Glasgow Spy Kids' from Scotland. A crew that Marshall use to be part of. After the release of the book it became a worldwide term for the Skins from the early days that listen and danced to Reggae music. Marshall also released a continuation of this book, best known as 'Skinhead Nation'. Did not make much success as well as Spirt of 69, but it quickly sold out. Some people follow step by step what the book says, and turning into what Skinhead is. Some forget that is just a personal experience, and he calls him self 'NOT a skinhead god'. But apparently a lot of people skipped those pages. I'll say it again, the book is fantastic. If you really want to know about the Skinhead cult, make sure have some time to read all 176 pages of this book. I hope you like it, 'cause it took me a while to get this book

Viciours Rumours - Anytime Day Or Night (1986)

Oi! have you ever heard of 'Vicious Rumours'? I hope you have. This is another great Oi! band from the early 80's who managed to be active till the late 90's. Formed in 1979 from South London by vocalist/guitarrist John Mundy. The band had a numerous changes in their line up, and not till '83 the managed to keep it stable. Vicious Rumours had their first show opening for 'The Business' and later supporting bands like the '4 Skins' and 'Infa Riot'. By the mid 80's, the band managed to get lots of respect in the Oi! scene with the release of their first LP 'Anytime Day or Night' released by Roddy Moreno's record 'Oi! Records' in 1986. By the release of their second LP the band started to change their image a bit, and started to walk away from the Oi!/Skinhead scene. Saying they did not want to have anything to do with the 'aggro' no more. 'The Sickest Men in Town' LP was released in '87 by Moreno's records once again. Both LP's would later be repressed by 'Captain Oi! Records' onto a cd, as well as releasing 'The Best of Vicious Rumours' in the year of 2000. The band managed to be part of many Oi! compilations during the late 90's and early 2000's. The band came to an end by late 1990's. The band later reformed in 2001, and did a gig in Germany. Their comback did not last long, and Vicious Rumours was once again forced to split their ways. The band always came out as a apolitical band. Even though in the late 70's, John supported the British Movement and did early shows with some RAC bands, which later cut all relations with any political sides. I hope you like it.

Special Duties - The Punk Singles Collection (1999)

Hello hello, I'm back and I bring you another great band from the late 70's. A band that already had one of the earliest form of Street Punk, without having a clue that 15 years later it would change the sound of Punk Rock. 'Special Duties' was formed in 1977 in Colchester, Essex (England). Released their debut single 'Violent Society' and 'Colchester Council' in 1980 by 'Charnel House Records'. Managed to released a few more singles and an EP before the release of their first LP '77 in 82' in 1982 by 'Rondelet Records'. That same year they declared war to hippy anarchist band 'Crass', acussing them of destroying the scene. Which led to the released of the 'Bullshit Crass' EP in '82. Which was censorship by many distributors and refused to stock this material. In 1983 the band released their last single 'Punk Rocker', and it was not well distributed. That same year the band split up. Twelve years later, 'Captain Oi! Records' reissued '77 in 82', and encouraged by the response to it the band got back together, playing at 1995's 'Fuck Reading at the Brixton Academy'. In 1999 'Captain Oi! Records' released this fantastic CD 'The Punk Singles Collection', containing the bands best songs from 1977 till the late 90's. The band is still active and still playing their Oi!/77/Streetpunk songs all over Europe. Funny, and beleive that the sound of Street Punk was being played in the late 70's, and no one had a clue. The Violators - The No Future Years (2005)

Here's another classic from the early 80's. 'The Violators' was formed in 1981 in New Mills, England and it was a mixture of punks and skins in their line up. In their beiginnings the band sounded very similar to 'Vice Squad' and 'The Expelled'. The band made their debut on the 'A Country Fit For Heroes' 12" in 1981 by 'No Future Records'. The following year they released their first EP titled 'Gangland' followed by 'Summer of 81' in 1982 again by No Future. Few weeks after the release of their second EP, vocalist Helen and guitarrist Coley splited from the band to form their own band call Taboo, but never issued any singles. Meanwhile The Violators have recruited a new vocalist called Louise and guitarist Andy who was formally with "Skin Graft". The second generation of The Violators changed their sound. This time with heavier vocals and songs. The band always kept their clockwork sound, which they are known for. Violators released a few more singles, but never a full length. Later in 2005, 'Captain Oi! Records' once again managed to get the tracks from all of their singles and compilations they appeared and relesead this fantastic CD. The band split up in the mid 80's, and marked history with their clockwork images and noises in the punk culture. Enjoy!

Frankie Flame & The Whalers - Oslo Oi! (1997)

Oi! Oi! Oi!, I bring you this rarity from Norway. I don't have much information about this EP. All I know is that it came out in 1997 and I'm pretty sure it was released by Frankie Flame, even though they are a british punk/pop band. They still seemed to release D.I.Y. style vinyls. The Whalers were a skinhead band from Oslo as you can see, and for this EP they feature Frankie Flame. I have read somewhere else, and I think they released a previous 7 inch, a tribute to the local football team Vålerenga, and I'm guessing 'Oslo Oi!' was their second 7 inch release. I also saw one of their members in the 90's skinhead documentry 'World Of Skinhead'. Even though they came out in the mid 90's (I think), The Whalers still managed to have a classic Oi! sound. A friend of mine told me they managed to make it to the early 2000's, but the band split up a few times, and everytime they reformed, sometimes they never showed up to their gigs. BOOK - The Story of Oi!: Oi! A View From The Dead End Of The Street (1981)

Punk came out in the 70's and it was a big change for Rock music and the working class youth. It said a lot of things that pissed out the rest of society and scared many people, but no music and movement was more real than Oi!. Started in the late 70's and it was real punk, the lyrics ment things and they were acomplished, compare to punk... it was too much talking less activity. Bands like Menace, Sham 69, Cock Sparrer and others influenced to what it became the proudest music of the English working class youth, it was Oi!. Later in the 80's the movement split up, either you had to be a lefty or a right wing. Well, I don't want to spoil it and ruin the book for you. Garry Johnson wrote this fantastic book explaining the rise of Oi! in the 80's and all the controversial events that happen. It also contains great pictures and some lyrics from some of the bands. Later in 2008 Johnson re-released a copy of the book again but this time with some more information, pictures, and even 'Boys Of The Empire' poem book. I actually found this book over the internet acidently. One of the greatest thing about the book is that for the first time an author does not compare, talk about, or even mention about fascim in the skinhead scene. Well, is about time too. Perdition - You Don't Have To DEMO (1983)

In the early 80's, bands like Vicious Circle, Depression, and Civil Dissident were the best punk bands in Australia, but you can't leave 'Perdition' to the side. Formed sometime in 1983 in Adelaide in the southern side of the gigantic island of Australia. The band released a few demo tapes but 'You Don't Have To' and 'A Positive Alternative Torture' were the most notorious ones released in 1983. One of Perdition's best impresion was when they played with the Dead Kennedys show in september of '83, they manage to impress a large amount of people. In 1984 'Reactor Records' released the band's debut album titled 'The Intoxicated EP' and only 500 copies were pressed. One year later Reactor would re-release the record onto a 12" to improve the mix. The band managed to do very well in the east side of Australia and having great tours, but they had a hard time playing in their own city. In 1985 Perdition released their second album 'How To Teach Your Budgie To Talk' LP once again by Reactor Records, and 1000 copies were pressed. unfortunately, it was one of the label's poorest selling records, as the band had moved in a less "hardcore" direction. That same year they released a split with the Melbourne band, 'Vicious Circle', which came out on the 'Flipside Records' from the U.S. Although this brought the band to an end, do to heading to a poppier sound, the band called it a quit. Still concidered to be one of the best punk bands from Australia.

If you are keeping track of the albums I've been posting, this is a continuation of New Zealand's punk. Vocalist 'Void' from 'Riot 111' organized one of the biggest punk events in the history of Punk in the NZ island. 1983 was the year where all the second wave punk bands from all over the country came together and played for the whole day. Bands like 'No Tag', 'Flesh D-Vice', 'Riot 111', 'Ayrian Army (ECF)' and other great bands from the era. Sadly the festival turned into chaos after the police invasion. Other factors for shutting down the fest was the violence between skinheads, maori gangs, and selfish girlfriends. Still today is concidered to be the most historic festival in the kiwi island. One year after 'Jayrem Records' released live tracks and sealed turning a historic LP. I hope you like it.

Flesh D-Vice - 12 Inches Of Hard Flesh (1983)

I bring back another gem from New Zealand. 'Flesh D-Vice' had to be one of the best punk bands and most influencial 2nd wave punk in New Zealand. The band formed in 1980 and in their beginnings they had an Oi!/77 sound. The band quickly made a name for them self after the released of their debut album '12 Inches of Hard Flesh' LP in 1983 by 'Jayrem Records'. Concidered to be an Oi! band at first, shared stages with the skins from 'No Tag', even though the drummer and bass player Richard Watts from Flesh D-Vice were the only skinheads in the band. Watts later left the band after the release of the first LP. The following year the band appeared in the fabulous live compilation LP titled 'Capitol Kaos' released by 'Kaos Records'. Bands like 'No Tag', 'Riot 111', 'Aryan Army' and others appeared on the compilation. By 1984 the band released their second full-length 'Some Blood Stained Morning' by 'Jayrem Records' again. This time the band made some changes in their sound and it was going more towards the 'New Wave'. Flesh D-Vice released one more full-length album and a few EP's and also appeared on a few more compilations. Ten years after the band formed, they called it a quit. Today getting hold of their early LP's and EP's is quite hard and very expensive. For the ones who would like to buy some of their early material try checking Ebay or TradeMe (NZ bitting site). Dose Brutal - Dose Brutal CD (1995)

Brazil in the 80's had many great punk bands, but no punk band can compare to 'Dose Brutal'. Formed in the gigantic city of Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1980, Dose Brutal became one of the few bands to play for punks and skins, considere to be a Skunx band. By 1982 the unity between punks and skins split up and it made it hard for some bands to choose a side. Bands like 'Garotos Podres' and 'Virus 27' went towards the skinhead scene, even though Dose Brutal still managed to play for both tribes. In 1982 they were invited to play in the biggest punk festival in the history of Brazilian Punk 'O Começo Do Fim Do Mundo', the following year 'Face Da Morte Records' released live recordings from the festival on an LP. The band recorded a few demos and hit the studio in '85. They released their debut LP 'Dose Brutal' in 1987 by 'Radykaos Records' containing 7 tracks that you can see on one of the images that I've posted. Later in 1995 'ABC Records' released the same LP on a CD format including tracks from their early demos. Soon after the released of their self-titled LP the band hit the studio again the following year and recorded tracks for their second album 'Vadia' EP. The band split up before they had a chance to release the EP. In 2000 'Oi! Hammer Records' from Germany released 500 copies of 'Vadia' and sold out quick. Dose Brutal never made a comeback, but it still concidered one of the best bands that ever came out from Sao Paulo. Loved by punks and skins, even though it's ironic since both of them hate each other. I hope you like it.

Blitz - All Out Attack (1981)

Hello hello, I'm back and I bring you another fabulous gem from the 80's. If you don't know who 'Blitz' is, buddy, you best download this EP right now. Blitz, formed in 1980 from New Mills, Derbyshire, England. Blitz became one of the best Oi! bands from the early 80's, as well as being one of the first street punk bands. The band consisted of two punks and two skins, and their intentions were to bring unity between both tribes. 'All Out Attack' was released by 'No Future Records' in 1981, 1000 copies were pressed and quickly sold out every copy. Even still today it's pretty hard getting a copy of the original EP. The following year 'No Future' released what it would be Blitz masterpiece 'Voice Of A Generation' LP, which did not included tracks from 'All Out Attack'. About that same year the band started having numerous changes in their line up. In 1983 the band released their second full-length album 'Second Empire Justice' LP once again by No Future. Their fans were dissapointed and Blitz has changed their style, they were no longer a Punk band. The band came to an end in the early 90's due to musica differences among band memebers. In 2007 guitarrist/songwritter Alan "Nidge" Miller recruited new members and performed gigs under the same name. That same year Blitz did a tour in the U.S. and it led to a catastrophe. Miller was struck by a car and died on the impact while trying to walk in the freeway after a show in Austin, Texas (R.I.P.). Since then the band called it a quit. Blitz albums still sells that if they just came out, the band has sold over thousands of records all over the globe and still one of most covered band by many. I hope you love this EP as much as I do.

The Bristles - Don't Give Up EP (1983)

The Bristles are here! ahh what a great band. Formed in the early 80's in Sweden, The Bristles became one of the best punk bands in their land. Specially because they brought unity between punks and skins. The band released a few demo tapes before their debuting EP. Two of there most noticeable tapes were '1 2 Fuck You' recorded by the band and 'Ban The Punk Shops' released by 'Aga Tapes' in '83. That same year they had their release EP 'Don't Give Up' by their own label 'Bristles Punks and Skins Records'. The band put out two more EP's, 'Boys Will Be Boys' (1984), and 'Free The Prisoners' (1986). The band split up in the late 80's and never released a full length disc. In the early 2000's, I don't remember which record label, released a full discography and two live DVD of the band titled 'No Future In The Past', which is still avaliable. Well, thats all I can tell you abou The Bristles. I hope you like it.

VA - Strength Thru Oi! (1981)

Oi!, what a great album this is. Yet, it was another controversial album in the Oi! world. It was compiled by the Oi! journalist Garry Bushell, who also released 'Oi! The Album' the previous year. What made it so controversial was that the media for the first time had a look on what Oi! really was. Instead of listening to the lyrics of the bands, they concentrated more on the album cover. 'Nick Crane' the skin in the front cover was a Nazi (gay who later died of AIDS), it was a mistake of having him. Garry and his fellows who helped him put this LP they did not know he was part of the NS movement, till later after the released when they saw a few nazi tattoos on him. The media made a big deal of it, and accused Oi! of being fascist music. It's even more surprising that the media made such a big effort to go beyond an underground music to find out the life of Nick Crane. After the accusations of being a fascist album, it was banned from all records stores. 'Decca Records' and 'Sounds Magazine' (where Garry work) had to apologise for the mistake, even though it made no diference. Through the 80's and still today Oi! music was concidered fascist music and skins gained a bad reputation of being nazis. Even though, many skins joined the National Front in the 80's. Well, today I don't think what happen back then matters anymore, in fact, I don't think a lot of people are aware of what even happen. Strength Thru Oi! has to be one of the best Oi! compilations out there. Enjoy!

No, this is not another hispanic band hahahah. I do have to say they are a fucking amazing band. 'The Insane' was formed in 1981 in Wigan, England and had their debut EP 'Politics' released by 'Riot City Records' that same year. The following year the band put out their most famous single 'El Salvador' released by 'No Future Records'. This time with a more of an Oi!-ish sound compare to their first single. The band put out one more single and a split with the 'Skeptix', never released a full-length studio album. The band split up in the mid-80's. In 1999 'Captain Oi! Records' once again released another great 'The Punk Collection' split, and this time The Insane with 'Blitzkrieg', a band who they share members with. I hope you enjoy this gem, I couldn't resist not posting.

Comando Suicida - Al K.O. (1987)

If you were not aware, there's been skinheads in 'South America' since 1979. Born in the large city of Sao Paulo, Brasil. Punk gangs in the late 70's started imitating the image and attitude from the British Oi! skins and punks. By the begining of the 80's the first skinheads of Brazil ('Carecas', Brazilian skins) expanded all over South America. In 1983 Sergito and his boys were the first skinheads in Argentina. 'Comando Suicida' was born that same year in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina and the band started first as a punk band, imitating the 'Sex Pistols'. By the end of the 'Falklands War' Comando cut all relations with the punks and changed their sound towards the Oi! anthems. Inspired by the 'Cockney Rejects' and the '4 Skins', Comando Suicida has to be one of the best Oi! bands in South America, even today. 'Al K.O.' EP was released in 1987 by 'Radio Tripoli Records'. As years went by, the band had numerous changes of members. Today, 'Sergito' the vocalist is the only original member. Comando also appeared in the amazing compilation released by Radio Tripoli in 1988 titled 'Invasion 88' as well as other great punk bands from the era. By the early 2000's the band released their masterpiece LP 'Sentimiento Inexplicable' dedicated to all the football hooligans, barra bravas, and football teams. Clockwork Soldiers - Demo and EP (1984-1985)

I bring you another great Oi!/Punk band from the mid-80's. I'm not quite sure when the band was form, but I'm guessing the same year they released their first demo in '84. I do know the band is from Liecester, England. The band split up after their first and only EP was released, titled 'Wet Dreams' in 1984 by 'Rot Records', the band put out one more demo and call it a quit. One of the main reasons why the band split up was due to the constant rioting at their gigs. One of the most notably was the riot against 'The Oppressed' crew in Cardiff and with the 'Hereford Skins' after 'The Exploited' gig at the Market Tavern. After 'Clockwork Soldiers' split up, singer 'Timo' formed the patriotic band call 'The Glory' which it didn't either last long. I hope you enjoy this.

A.B.H. & Subculture - The Oi! Collection (1998)

Another two great bands from the 80's. Live I've said before in the other 'The Oi! Collection' post, there's got to be hundreds of Oi! bands in the 80's that had more potential and attitude than the over-rated bands like the 'Cockney Rejects', '4 Skins', and others. 'A.B.H.' was formed in 1982, released two self-recorded demos in '82 and '83 but had their first release in great 'A Country Fit For Heroes Vol. 2' compilation in '83 by 'No Future Records'. The band also re-apeared in on the 'Oi! of Sex' compilation (1984) put by the Oi! journalist 'Garry Bushell'. On the other hand 'Subculture' was formed in the early 1983 and released their first and only EP by 'Essential Records' titled 'Loud & Clear'. A year before the release of their EP the band appeared on the 'Oi! Oi! Thats Yer Lot' complation LP by 'Secret Records'. Both bands split up in the late 80's, even though, A.B.H. took a different path and became part of the right wing movement with different line up. Still, this is a great Split, containing the early recordings of both bands. I hope you like it.

Chron Gen - The Best Of (1994)

Chronical Generation, or better known as 'Chron Gen'. The band started in 1977 as 'The Condemned' and later changed their name that same year. In 1981 they had their debut EP titled 'Puppets Of War' which it turned into a success. The band toured with 'The Exploited', 'Anti-Pastie', 'Discharge', and 'Anti Nowhere Leage' in the infamous 'Apocalypse Tour'. Later released a Live LP of the Chron Gen set. In 1994 'Captain Oi! Records' (once again releasing another great album) released the best and full discography of the band. I have no idea when the band came to an end, but I'm gessing it did during the 80's. Enjoy!

Antidote - My Life (1999)

I'm back and still bringing more great records for your listening pleasure. This got to be Holland's best punk band of all time. These punk drunkasses brought back the spirit of Punk with the revolution of street punk. The band started in 1996 and released their first 7 inch titled "Bounce The Bouncer" released by their own label 'Injection Records' in 1997, only 100 copies were made. That same year the band did a mini tour in Germany. The following year Antidote released one of their greatest EP's and an anthem for all the drunks titled "Let's Get Drunk", and amazing 7 inch that I wish I had. As time kept passing by, they made a name for them selfs in the U.S. when they did an East Coast tour with New York heroes 'The Casualties', which they advertised their first full-length album "My Life", which in my opinion is the band's best LP. Every song is dedicated to what punk really is as well as great tunes to get drunk to. After this it was going to be one of the many times Antidote visited American soil. By 2000 they get signed to 'Dirty Faces Records' and their second full-length comes out, 'Go Pogo'. Still a good LP, not as good as the first ones. The band would put out many great LPs, EPs, and splits. Now they just released their 5th disc called "No Communication". I don't think is that great, in fact, I think it sucks. For my taste, "Back In Year Zero" is the last LP that was good, in fact, very good. After that they made some changes in their sound. Also, when Antidote released "My Life", they released a 'Promo' video-clip that was aired on European MTV, hahahaha, which is funny in a way. But I do have to say its a good video. Well, thats all. Crux/The Samples - The Oi! Collection (2000)

There's got to be hundreds of Oi! bands in the 80's that had more potential and attitude than the over-rated bands like the 'Cockney Rejects', '4 Skins', and others. 'Crux' and 'The Samples' are one of those bands that their name never made it as big as the Rejects. Both bands first appeared in the great 12 inch compilation "A Country Fit For Heroes Vol. 1" (1981), which was a compilation made to help promote unknown bands to get their names out there. That compilation quicly sold out and was the beginning for Crux and The Samples, as well as the other bands in the compilation, made a name for them selfs. As the 80's went on, Crux released their first 7 inch with the band 'Crash' in 1982, as well for The Samples, they released their first EP titled 'Dead Heroe' that same year. Sadly, both bands did not last very long and came to an end sometime during the 80's. This split album-CD was released by 'Captain Oi! Records' (as well as other bands with the same title of the album) in recognition and tribute to the songs that were never released. This is all I can tell you about both bands. I do know Crux later came out in some other compilations that were released in 2000 by some other labels, as well you can find a copy of their Demo and Live albums online, but thats about it. Fuck Ups - FU82 (1982)

This got to be San Francisco's ugliest, and most hate band from the early 80's. The band was formed by singer Bob Noxious who was banned from the punk scene and every where else he went, as well as disliked by most people, even his band mates, hahahaha. The band came out on the "You'll Hate This Record" compilation LP, which was a horrible album. It came out in 1983 on the 'Seidboard Enterprises' label featuring the track 'I Think You're Shit'. The other punk band in the LP was GG Allin, but the rest of it was compose by shitty/loud noise bands. Sadly 'FU82' is the band's only EP. It first came out on a pink sleeve and then later for the second printing it was a black sleeve. The band was so hated by everyone they came out to an end quickly by the mid-80's. Even though, I don't think many people still like them, hahaha. I hope you enjoy this great record.

Histeria Oi! - Meninos Do Brasil (1988)

I went farther down the continent this time and made it all the way to Brazil, a very beautiful country with gorgeous girls and great bands. This got to be one of my favorite bands in South America, as well as Comando Suicida from Argentina. Histeria Oi! was born in the mid-80's being one of the first Careca (Brazilian skinheads) bands in Sao Paulo. Histeria relesed their first and only full length album in 1988 by 'Devil Discos' titled 'Meninos Do Brasil' (Boys Of Brazil). The band did later appeared in a compilation with two other great Oi! bands from Brazil, Virus 27 and Bandeira de Combate, titled 'Oi! Um Grito De Uniao' in 1995 released by 'Rotten Records'. Concidered to be one the best Oi! bands in Brazil, the band split up around '95. I do know they played at 'Inverno Oi!' (Winter Oi! Festival) in Sao Paulo in '94, and you can see the video under the cover of the album. Well, I leave you with this, I would like to thanks Roy from 'Expulsos Do Bar' for a copy of this LP. Enjoy!

U.F.C. - U.F.C EP (2000)

Hello once again, I know I've been doing this for a while and keep posting bands from Florida. I gotta tell you, U.F.C. had to be my favorite band when I use to live in Florida. The band came out around '99 and their members were from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. They were one of the first bands to get punks and skins together, and everytime they played, they played one of the most chaotic shows in South Florida. These street punk kids got signed to Charged Records in 2000 and released their first self-title EP. The band later regrouped in New York where they had a change of members. The band is still active today, and they have released a full length album; 'All That I Despise', and a demo titled 'Quiero Mas Cerveza'. Well, thats all I can tell you about the band. I hope you like it. I had a hard time trying to record the EP onto my computer. Enjoy!

Demob - Better Late Than Never (2002)

Ah yes! I bring you Demob! An amaizing band from the late 70's. For the ones that have not heard them yet, you should definitely take a closer look at this album. Demob was born in 1978 in Gloucester, England. It was formed by Terry Elcock and drummer Johnny Melfah. At first the band had two singers and was one of the first punk bands to have a double singer, as well as being one of the first bands to have a black member in the band, who was one of the other singers. In 1979 the band was concidered one of the most chaotic bands of the era, specially when they fooled the authorities into letting them have a place in the Gloucester annual carnival parade. The parade turned into a riot when a punks and bikers fight broke out leading to the suspencion of the carnival. Round Ear Records heard about the riot and quickly got in contact with the band. By 1980 the band lost both of their singers and gave a push to which later lead to the decline of the band. That same year the band released their first EP titled 'Anti-Police' which became a Demob Anthem. Since the band had a multi racial line up, it attracted many of the NS members with intentions of shutting down their gigs as well as causing riots. In '83 the band released their second single, 'No Room For You', quickly followed to add to the success, but unfortunately, like so many punk acts of the era, musical differences soon developed amongst the line up and Demob split to pursue other musical avenues that same year. The band later reformed in 2001 and released 'Better Late Than Never' which contains tracks from the early Demob and some new tracks recorded in 2001. Today we can say Demob became another "cover band", they had too many members that came and go in the band, the only original member was guitarrist Terry Elcock, which later abandoned Demob in 2007, leaving the rest of the members being part of a cover band. Demob attracted mostly punks and some skinheads followed them. They had that typical sound of the 80's, it was almost Oi!... almost. Enjoy!

A Global Threat - What The Fuck Will Change? (1999)

I digged through my collection and pull out this classic of street punk. A Global Threat was formed in 1997 in Maine but later the following year they relocated in Boston, where it was based until their break up. The band played innumerous shows in New York and Boston. At that period the band met Mark Civitarese (Mark Unseen) who was a big supporter of the band, and later join himself in. In 1999 the band released 'What The Fuck Will Change? EP' which was later re-released by Step-1 Records as a full-length LP including some tracks from their previous EP 'The Kids Will Revolt Against All Authority'. After the released of 'Until We Die' LP, the year of 2000 was when the band started to kick off as well as changing and losing members. That same year Mark played their last show, deciding he only wanted to stick to one band; The Unseen. A Global Threat became one of the most famous bands during the early 2000, specially because they toured the USA plenty of times, and everytime they came to your town, they always brought a good band with them, as well as everytime you've seen them, they had different members. By the released of their 3rd LP 'Here We Are' they band was almost concidered a cover band, since most of their members already have been replaced or quit the band. Not till their last album 'Where The Sun Never Sets' released in 2006 by BYO Records, I think is a big shame that the band still calls them self A Global Threat, specially because it doesn't even sound like AGT anymore. I've seen them with their last line up, and its just embarrasing. The singer actually sings now, and the guitarrist and bass player look like they've played in some lame-pathetic MTV band or something. Either way, to me the end of AGT came after the released of their second album. In my opinion, their first 2 LP's is what made a difference in street punk, after that it was just all shit. Rough - Indelebile (2004)

Well, hello again. I'm back and this time this blog it keeps getting better. I bring you a gem in Italian Oi!. If you haven't heard it, or have not been educated yet, 'Rough' has to be Italy's best Oi! band from all times! This is my favorite band from Italy, as well as 'Nabat'. Rough started around 1980 in Torino and was one of the first Oi! bands as well as one of the first Skinheads in Italy and Torino it self. Recorded and released their first EP in '82 titled 'Torino E La Mia Citta'. In 1984 they were invited to be part of a tape compilation titled 'Ahhhh... Italian Punk!', but not till the following year when they appeared on the 'Quelli Che Urlano Ancora' compilation released and put together by C.A.S. Records, a self-independent label by the band Nabat, 'No Politica' was the title of the track and it was concider one of their rare songs, even though you can find it on some of their old demos. After Rough appeared in that last compilation, they quickly desintegrated and that was the end of the best, loudest, and the most unfamous Oi! skinhead band from Italy. By the early 2000, a few ex members and fans recolected some of their demos, first EP and a 7 song live track and turned it into this magnificant album, it was released by 'Oi! Strike Records'. It was only released as a CD format. Well, took me a while to find this, but I hope you like you it!

A Country Fit For Heroes (1981)

I'm back and I bring you another great compilation from the early 80's. As Oi! was progressing in the late 70's and early 80's, in most of the Oi! compilations it always seem to have the same bands over and over, it didn't matter what was the name of the compilation you always seem to have the 4 Skins, Cockney Rejects, Business, Angelic Upstart, and so on. No Future Records released this LP in '81 with the purpose of giving other Oi! and Punk bands the opportunity to get their name out there. Bands like Crux, Samples, Violators, One Way System and others. Which in my opinion I thought it was a great idea, this compilation is great. The first volume made a great impression and sold out quickly, two years after the first volume, No Future released Volume 2 in '83. The compilation had the same idea and structure as the first volume, the only difference was the bands. This time ABH, Intensive Care, Criminal Damage and others had the chance to show what they were made of. I will post the second volume of this great compilation very soon. I hope you all like it.

I saw this EP one day when I was shopping at 'Hits and Misses', the cover of the album cought my attention. I did some research of the band, and they came out in the early 90's, 'Falling Apart' was their first EP then later released a full-length during the 90's. As the years went by the band had a numerous changes of member, which they came to an end a little before 2000. 'S.B.L.C.' stands for Screaming Bloody Leper Children. I'm sorry but this is all the information that I have of the band. Enjoy it.

This is an amaizing compilation released in 1997 by 'Teenage Rebels Records' from Germany. The purpose was to put an LP of Oi! bands from all over the world except the UK and USA since finding bands from both countries are easy and have a bigger chance to be known over the world. A thousand copies were made then it was later reissue as a CD. Today it's very hard to get this LP in your hands, and if you do find it I garantee you it will cost a lot of money. The compilation made great success that it was later released a Volume 2 in 1999 by different bands from all over the world once again and again the UK and USA did not make part of the compilation. 80's Punk is out... Street Punk is the new Oi!

I've been thinking a lot about this lately. I read zines and internet articles on punk music most of the time, and for majority of the time, most of the articles are based on late 70's and 80's punk band. Ohh I wish i was a teenager in those days, but I wasn't. It's very rare to find articles talking about the rise or reborn of punk in the mid 90's, I think many people has forgotten about it, even though it was only 15 years ago.

Punk its a very weird kind of music, that somehow it keeps coming back fresher all the time, as well as taking a break every 5 to 7 years. We all know it started in the mid 70's and thousands of bands came out till the late 80's. It started as punk 77, then picked up some more speed and attitude having a UK82 sound, and in the early 80's Oi! was the new voice of real punk. Punk to me it has always been about the aggression, about how it belong to kids that felt rejected from society, rebellious kids, kids that came from working/lower class families. I've never seen it as a political "movement" or any of that bullshit. I mean, if the people in our society don't have the right to say what they want, who the fuck is gonna listen to a bunch of filthy punk kids? hahahaha, no one! But all that was back then, I love all of those bands from the 70's and 80's, but as much as I love it, I'm not part of it, neither I'm never going to be.

As the 80's go on, it seems to be self destructing the scene on its own. Either if they were a punk band or an Oi! band, by the end of the 80's, either you had to be Red or a bonnehead. Like I said before, none of the shit that I like, neither give a shit about it. The 90's started and it seem that punk was a thing of the late 70's and the 80's, or maybe just too a break from all the bullshit. I say around '94 is when it starts to pick up. In my opinion, The Casualties gave it that push to bring back again, at least in American soil. This time punk seem fresh, with a whole new look, way of thinking, a sound that stick to the kids and brough unity between punks and skins once again. No! it wasn't Oi!... it was Street Punk. Street Punk was the new face of punk, it re-created it self again. It was a mixture of Oi! with American Hardcore, and best of all this time was not about politics. It felt like we had our own music again, for the ones that didn't live it in the 80's, it seem that we went back to the pass and it started all over again.

Even though The Casualties had shitty ass lyrics and still do, hahahaha, most their songs were dedicated to the punks, drinking and having a good time, and unity between skin and punks. As the mid-90's picks up, more bands started to come out, and most of them had the same sound and the same ideals. This time there was no politics behind, instead it was more of a protest against our government and everyone else that pissed us off. Around '97 'Punkcore Records' came out, and sign 4 of the greatest bands that you HAD to listen to. The line up was The Casualties, A Global Threat, The Unseen and The Virus. In my opinion they were the ones that brough back Punk in the mid-90s and even early 2000. I remember going to shows waiting for any of those bands to play, and you see kids, they all kind of look the same, in a way it was like an uniform, hahahaha. Most guys had spikes or mohawks (some more than one), hair had all kinds of diferent color (blue and green most preferable), some ripped band shirt with no sleeve, stud belts (some wore 2 to 3 at once), others prefered the bullet belts and that shit was heavy, I don't know how they could wear that, hahahahhaa. Tight jeans was preferable by most kids, or jean fucked up shorts, as well as boots (any kind), vans and converse always came in handy too. I also remember some kids always had a big Oi! in their shirts wearing it with thing suspenders and the rest of the outfit that I just described. Basicly most kids were Oi! Punks. The girls had a look of their own as well, leopard print pants (any color), boots or some kind of shoes that look hot (haha), jeans or skirt depending on how much of a skank they were, also they cut it the neck of their shirts and turned it into a wifebeater kind of looking. Belts never missed, and of course, I remember it was a competition who wore better make up, hahahahaha. Specially the ones that were a Devotchkas fan, most of them they all liked like Alaine. Ohh, how I miss those girls. Also, the jackets it look like they made it in art class or something, everyone painted their favorite bands in the back, front, sleves of the jacket. I also remember some kids were too "Oi! Punks" already and use to have a British flag in their jacket, or just wore the sleveless Union Jack shirt, hahahahhaa they were a bunch of queers, specially when they faked their british accent by saying "give me a fukeeen beeaaaar".

To me this was the golden days of punk, no one really cared about anarchy or fascism or any of that shit. I also remember going to local shows and see the crappy bands that use to play, and as phonney as it sounds, we still had a good time especially when they played covers. Most bands were pretty shitty so they covered The Casualties a lot. Songs like "Oi! Song", "Policy Brutality" and "Punk Rock Love", and the ones that were a little more "diversed" played "Oi! Punks" by the Oi! Scouts, hahahahhaa. Looking back it brings so much good memories, especially the girls, they were sooo hot and skanky as shit, most of them were just fashion whores though, I don't think most of them knew more than 10 bands, hahahahhaha.

Anyway, everytime any of 4 bands that I mention played in your town you knew it was going to be a big party, specially when other Street bands from Europe came and toured in North America. In a way it seems weird on how once again it just happen with out being planned out, we were all blind kids, we didn't know what was going on, and all the bands that were coming out they all sounded the same in a way with out even noticing or attempting to sound like the rest of the others.

By 2000 it just kept getting better, New York was the home of The Casualties and CBGB's kept having punk heroes everyweekend. California and the rest of the West Coast was more a European-style of scene, specially because most of the European bands toured on that side of the country. I really thought punk was here stay this time, but I guess I was wrong. As it arrived to '03 and '04, most of the bands that I looked up to, started to split apart, or had continously changes of members. The Virus was basicly over, they had 3 diferent singers and that was it. Mike Virus went to start that gayass band Cheap Sex, which in my opinion they were one of the first bands to kill Street Punk. They were and still so fashionable, they sound was so mainstream and inflenced a lot of the bands that are coming out today. Punk in my opinion dies in late '04 early '05. It seem that no one cared anymore, like I was saying, most of the bands we're splitting and record lables like Punk Core started signing bands that were horrible. It came to an end. Most kids jumped quickly into 'Hardcore', I guess they felt they needed to be part of something, and others quickly became crusties. The whole crusty punk to me its pathetic, they are not punks and never going to be. To me they are long hair hippy/metalheads living in the streets, and for the most part they are rich kids, hahahahhaa. The whole idea of sticking together, seeing thousands of punks and skins in one pit pogoing or skanking together it was a dream that one day I hope it comes back. But oh well, I really don't see a comeback this time. Punk became so comercial it's not the sound of working class kids anymore, but it became a music of the rich kids.

Well, I leave you with this then. It was just something that I remembered and everytime I look back it fills my eyes with tears, remember the good days. I guess the only thing I have left now is my record collection. R.I.P. Street Punk, Oi! Punks, Skins and everyone else that lived it through that time.

Indecent Exposure - Reveal All! (1984)

One of the best Oi! bands of all time. Brought back the spirit of Oi! to their roots in the mid-80's and too bad they did not last too long. The band was formed by Steve 'Milky' in 1980, influenced and passionate by the 4 Skins and the Last Resort, with no political ideas, never supported the left of the right wing. In 1982 the band released their first EP' titled 'Riots' in which turned to be a hard Oi! anthem reflecting to what happen a year before in 1981. Later in '84 'Reveal All! LP' followed by their second full-length 'No Looking Back' in 1985. By late '86 the Oi! scene has seem to split between the far right and the left, it was turning ugly. That same year singer Milky got into a fight before a gig with some political skin and told him to fuck off due to his politics. Indecent Exposure continued to played the show, and after a few songs that same skin that Milky had an argument threw a bottle to his face and split him. Indecent continued playing their set till after they were done he jumped into the crowed looking for the asshole who threw the bottle at him, but he seemed to run away. That was Indecent Exposure last gig in England and quickly after they broke up in '87, and waited 25 years to reunite again. In my opinion they are one of the greatest band from all times. They played at the Oi! Fest in '08 but I couldn't catch them. Hopefully they will keep playing and touring all over the world.

Germs - (MIA) The Complete Anthology (1993)

This is a band that needs no introduction, a band that ruled the California L.A scene in the late 70's and sadly end up with a tragedy. The band was formed by frontman and punk icon 'Darby Crash' and guitarist 'Pat Smear' in 1977. At first they were called 'Sophistifuck & The Revlon Spam Queens' but since it would cost them too much money to fit all the letters in a shirt, they re named the band to The Germs. Even though the band couldn't played their instruments well, they had their first show at 'The Whiskey' that same year they formed, which was also released a live LP of their first show by Bomp Records. The Germs put numerous of great shows, the only bad thing was that Darby always had a hardtime getting his lips near the microphone or actually trying to sing, thats because most of the time he was either too drunk or too high on something. If you watch the documentary 'The Decline of Western Civilization Part 1' the manager of the band says that they tryed all kinds of things to get him to sing to the mic, glued the mic to his hand, ducktape it, forced him to sing without being drunked/high. I guess it never worked. Their first release was 'Lexicon Devil EP' in 1978 released by Slash Records, their fans were a bit happy that they released some sort of record, due to it was hard to tell live to what he was saying, even though they were not full satisfied with the EP. In 1979 they released their only studio LP '(GI)' by Slash Records again. The band split up quickly after the released. In 1980 Darby gets in contact with Pat and tells him to have a reunion show, claiming it was necessary to "put punk into perspective" for the punks on the scene. With the money they were going to make, Darby told Pat that he was going to use that money to buy heroin and use it for suicide, but since Darby has said things like that many times, Pat did not take it seriously. The reunion show went great, in fact it was described their best show. Crash commited suicide on December 7th, 1980 at the age of 22. He had overdose on China white heroin in a suicide pact with close friend Casey Cola, who ended up surviving. As he lay dying, he attempted to write "Here lies Darby Crash" on the wall, but did not finish. That was the end of the Germs, even though they reunited again in 2005 with some queer singer, band did not make any success and fans were just grossed out by it. Later in 2008 they came out with a Germs movie called 'What We Do Is Secret'. The movie was based on the life of Darby Crash, played by some pathetic idiot call 'Shane West'. The movie is horrible, not even worth seeing it. If you want to see a good movie about the California Punk scene from the late 70's early 80's, then try finding the movie call 'Suburbia', played by real punks from that era and was produced by the same lady that made 'The Decline of Western Civilization'. Well, the spirit of the Germs still lives on today, there's even a whole movement devoted to his name, there is even punks that calls them self 'Germ Punks'. Too bad Darby had to be a fucking idiot and take his life, he could have made thousands of records with the Germs, but he's not here any more. Enjoy!

VA - Oi! The Album (1980)

I'm sure you've seen this picture thousands of times all over the internet, stickers, patches, etc. This got to be the album the one that put Oi! in the map. It was compiled by the famous music journalist Garry Bushell in 1980. He describes in his site (link) that he was the one that gave the name Oi! to this genre. Before it was called Oi! it was better known as 'Real Punk', 'Street Punk', or 'New Punk'. Cockney Rejects were the first ones to say Oi! and even though they were a punk band, most of their followers were Skinheads due to their passion to football (soccer). Oi! was the mixture of punk with football chants, it was more real than punk it self. Today I can say they are the kings of Oi!, Sham 69 and Cock Sparrer to me were more a punk band that were hardcore supporters of their team. After the introduction of this album, skinheads adopted this sound as their own and by the mid-80's and still today, most Oi! bands are played by skins.

Combat 84 - Orders Of The Day (2000)

I'm back and I bring back another controversial band from the 80's in the Oi! world. Even though they caused a lot of confusion and had a bad reputation since their beginning, Combat 84 played with a lot of anger and was not afraid to say what they had in their minds. Chris 'Chubby' Henderson started the band back in 1981 in Chelsea, London and played their first show with the Last Resort. Roi Pearce from the Last Resort (later in the 4 Skins) liked the band and decided to produce a two song demo tape with them. In '82, Gary Hitchcock manager of the 4 Skins tryed to sign the band to Secret Records, which they already had the 4 Skins, Infa Riot, The Business and others signed to the label, but they end up not signing with Secret, but they rather release their first EP titled 'Orders Of The Day' with Victory Records, which was later released as an entire discography LP in 2000 by Step-1 Records. The band did not make a good name for them selfs, specially because of the 1982 'BBC Arena Documentary' where the singer makes a racist comment towards the blacks, and as well when a riot breaks at one of their show and the singer starts shouting "stop it stop it, we're all white!". The band was frequently labeled as far right wing band, Combat 84 denied their association with any political parties, as well as not having any racist lyrics. But oh well, its all history now. In my opinion I don't think they are a nazi band, but I do know they weren't reds, thats for sure and just because of that can't classify them as right wing. Combat 84 was very controversial, and too bad they only lasted till '84.

Chickenhead - Everything Must Go! (EP + Demo) (1993)

I know I keep posting bands from Florida, but I had to post this. Chickenhead had to be Miami's best punk band from the 90's. Even though they sound like an 80's punk band, they have a very similar sound to the Germs, except they play better. Chickenhead was formed by frontman Chuck in the early 90's, I think in 91, with the intension of playing old school punk, even though they were very chaotic, drunk, and hulerios, the band played everywhere, from bars to small venues and from the everglades to house-parties. The band released their first EP in 1993 titled 'Everything Must Go!' which cost at the time a dollar and another dollar with a few weird-looking stamps for shipping. I know later in 99, I believe Chuck released a complete discography CD-SPLIT with Los Canadians another Miami band that I never heard of. The band split up around 1996, and Chuck later formed The Crumbs in 2000, which in my opinion they are not as good as Chickenhead. I did not get a chance to see them when I lived in Florida, I do hope they re-unite sometime, maybe that way I'll get a chance to see them. Chickenhead was an amazing band!

Skrewdriver - All Skrewed Up (1977)

This got to be one of most controversial and miss understood record in the history of punk rock. Skrewdriver was formed in 1976 by front man Ian Stuart, influenced after seeing the Sex Pistols in Manchester that same year. At first the band came out as a punk image, but quickly became the first skinhead band, and was always performed by a large skinhead audience since their beggining which most of the time the show had to be shut down do to skinhead violence. This record and the early Skrewdriver, they did not supported any political parties till the band split up in '79 and later in '82 when Ian reformed Skrewdriver with new members, the band came out as a far right National Socialist band (Ian was the only original member of Skrewdriver when they reformed). In my opinion this is one of the best records of all time, even though I get shit from other skins or punks for listening to their early stuff, I do not support the second face of the band. It's sad in a way, because if Ian changed the name when they reformed in '82, Skrewdriver wouldn't have this reputation, but thats not how things went.

Had to be one of the best Oi! band of the 80's, influenced by the Angelic Upstarts, Infa Riot played it faster and louder than them. Born in 1979 and played their first gig with the Angelic Upstarts, the band earned respect in the Oi! scene, too bad they didn't last long, and broke up in '86. This is a re issue of "Still Out Of Order" which came out in 1999 with some live tracks as well. I hope you enjoy it.

The Ejected - A Touch Of Class (1982)

Some people loved them, other hated their guts. The Ejected was a band from Essex, England (London suburbs) born in 1981 and their success did not last long. The band was composed by Big Jim Brooks (vocals, guitar), Gary Sandford (bass, vocals) (later replaced by Paul Quain), and drummer Mick 'Sticks' Robinson (later replaced by Paul Griffiths), influenced by the Cockney Rejects, UK Subs, Angelic Upstarts and other Punk and Oi! bands of the early 80's. Signed to Riot City Records, appeared in the Carry On Oi! compilation and had their debut EP in '82 titled "Have You Got 10p" later followed by "Noise For The Boys" EP released in '83 and as well as their full length 'A Touch Of Class'. The band had a bad reputation of being accused of being a right wing band and judged their LP of a "completely empty of any real substance" by Punk Lives. The band came to an end soon after their second LP. Band broke up in 1983, and that was the end of The Ejected.

This is an amazing compilation EP put by the gods of italian Oi! Nabat. The purpose was to bring unity between punks and skins, being Arrm and Rappresagla the punk bands, and of course Nabat and Dioxina representing for the skins. I really don't have much information about this compilation, but I do know it was released by C.A.S. Records, (Nabat's own record label). After the release of 'Skin E Punk', C.A.S released another LP skin and punk compilation in 1985 titled 'Quelli Che Urlano Ancora'. This is all the information that I have, I'm sorry. Hits And Misses Records

I've lived in the States for almost 9 years, traveled most of the East Coast, started in Florida and made it all the way to New York, and I got to tell ya, I still haven't seen any other punk record store like 'Hits and Misses' located in Toronto, Canada. You go in there and you will get lost in the thousands of punk goldies that they have, its pretty much a Punk/Oi! heaven for me, specially 'cause its near to my house, hahahaha. For the ones that live in Toronto, you definitely have to check this store out, it doesn't just sell records, but shirts, small patches, back patches, and everything you name it. Right now their site is down but do check their blog (link under text) and its being updated everytime they have new arrivals with details of the LP or EP even CDs. As I said, their site is down right now, but give them a call or email them for their catalog, I'm sure the owner will have no problem sending it to you, he's a very nice cat. Gotta tell ya, its my favorite store in Toronto, I hope they never go out of business cause they carry thousands but thousands of great punk rare albums, used or new.

The Grunts - Demo (2004 ?)

The Grunts, ahh this band brings many memories. One of the greatest street punk bands that came out of Miami, Florida as well as U.F.C. (sign to Charged Records). I don't remember when the band was formed, but I do remember seeing them a lot. Mostly in the Miami area and Pompano. Their sound is the typical band that started in the early 2000, very influenced by The Casualties and other street punk bands from the 90's. In my opinion, they are a great band to get drunk to. After they broke up around 2005 or so, that was the end of street punk/oi! kids in South Florida, most kid turned into crusty-hippy faggots. I found this demo in some old scratch demo CD they recorded. But oh well, I'll leave you with this gem of my early high school days.

No Tag - Oi! Oi! Oi! (1982)

This got to be in my opinion, New Zealand's best punk band from the 80's. I don't have much information of the band. All I really know is that they came out either in the late 70's or early 80's. They were one of the few bands at the time to do a full length titled 'Can We Get Away With It?' which was recorded live at the Reverb Room and contains their full discography. They also put out 'Oi! Oi! Oi!' as a 12 inch with only 3 studio tracks that was released by 'Propeller Records'. From what I've heard the band broke up after the releases of one of those two LP's (I don't know which came out first). Even though they play a British Oi! style, they play it good. I've seen a few pictures of No Tag, and they had a skinhead member in the band. Enjoy!

Devotchkas - Annihilation CD (2000)

Aah yes, the Devotchkas, what a great band and great memories of horny punk days. This girls make punk rock sexy, fuck Vice Squad and any other ugly ass chick punk bands out there, no other female band can't compare to them. The band started in 1996 in Long Island, New York with the mentality to play street punk and a mixture of British Oi!. At first it was formed by the 3 beautiful girls that we all know their names, Stephanie (vocals), Alaine (Bass), Mandy (guitar), and Jon (drums) from The Krays till 99 replaced by Gabrielle who was living in Boston at the time. The band put out their 4 track self-titled EP on '98 released by 'Punkcore Records' followed by 'Annihilation EP' on the same year by the same label. Devotchkas quickly made a name for them self in the Ny area and other major cities like, Philadelphia, Boston, Jersey City and others. One night Alaine gets and email from a tour manager from England who wanted to set up a two week tour over Europe. This group of beautiful girls played with hundreds of great bands like Last Resort, Cockney Rejects, Vice Squad, Hard Skins and many others as well they played on Holidays In the Sun. They get back to the states to record Annihilation full-length CD, which is a combination of their first two EP's plus some other new tracks. Band quickly takes of to Europe again and this time for 2 months. On the second tour things don't go very smooth, some of the girls started to feel like rockstars and a lot of drama between the girls. When the band gets back to the states ready to record their second full-length disc. Steph one night gets a call and they let her know they replaced her spot. Band puts out their second LP titled 'Live Fast, Die Young' that came out on 2001 by Punkcore Records again. The band quickly change their name to the 99's, but it just led to catastrophe, and the band splits up soon after. In my opinion there is no other band like them, and they will always be remember for their talent and their sexiness. Man, how I wish they were still together, or at least have a chance to hook up once with Steph, hahahah, such a heart breaker. I hope you all enjoy this.

Oxymoron - Fuck The Nineties: Here's Our Noize! (1995)

If we try to name some Skunx bands (skin and punk), we can come up with many bands like Blitz, Vicious Rumours, and many others. But no other band is more of a skunk band than Oxymoron, other than playing loud mixture of Punk and Oi! you could never figure out if Sucker (singer) is a punk or a skin, but that doesn't matter at all. In my opinion they have to be one of the best bands out there. Formed in 1992 in Erlangen/Nuernberg, Germany by Sucker and his cousin Bjoern on drums the band brought unity again between punks and skins. Oxymoron first released and EP titled 'Beware, Poisonous!' on their own Oxyfactory Records label on 1994, led to their full-length album 'Fuck The Nineties: Here's Our Noize!' in 1995 released by Oi! Records on vinyl which was later re-released on CD the next year in the United States. The band put number of great LP's and EP's over the years, and always became loyal to their style. In 2005 the band officially breaks up and a year after the singer Sucker puts out a solo project called Bad Co. Porject. Today many of their fans want Oxymoron to get together and to tour at least one last time to give the chance for those who did not get a chance to see them. Like I said it before, this is one of the best bands of all times. Enjoy.
